A capsule wardrobe is a small, deliberate collection of pieces that all work together. The plain t-shirt is its quiet foundation — the layer that makes everything else easier to wear.

Start with the essentials: a white, a black and a navy crew neck cover almost any outfit. Add one or two muted colours — olive, charcoal or sand — to bring in some range without breaking the palette. Choose a single fit you genuinely like and stick with it, so every tee layers and tucks the same way.

From there, a few tees in good cotton will carry you through the week: under a shirt, with denim, beneath a knit or on their own in summer. Buy fewer, choose better, and look after them, and a handful of well-made tees will quietly outperform a drawer full of impulse buys.
